This little we be flipbook was created in April/May of 2008, using text that was written earlier in the year and two details from the Meiji Era photograph that initially led to my 2006 bookwork until my body says sleep (Kokyo).
It was first shared at TRACING THE LINES: A Symposium on Contemporary Poetics and Cultural Politics to Honour Roy Miki in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The following was the flipping text in this bookwork:
we be
she Martha
she Kokyo
she Rubi
she me
she we
she be
who she was
and is
will be
free of lines
that tie her to
the yellowing page
in lost books
and those newly found
in archives
and basements
delivered by an unmet soul
puzzled
by my phonetical
fusion
